In a world without flowers

Where on earth would we all be if we had to live in a world without flowers?

In the current climate, with the Covid-19 outbreak limiting some transportation of goods, including some of the stunning flowers that are imported to us each week, can we even begin to imagine what life would be like if there were no flowers? Without any of the stunning rainbow colours, amazing array of textures and the joyous sweet smelling scents?

Can we?

Nope, we definitely can’t.

So let’s not even go there.

Instead, what if, through choice, we decide on foliage only for our wedding. Is that really an option? Do you have to be brave to do it? Would it look odd? Is it a more cost effective option?

I’ve had several Couples and Brides, who like me, have a real love for foliage and really want the luscious green stuff to play a major role in their overall styling.

The variety of foliage out there is endless, from hot house palms to natural messy ferns, the looks you can create are dazzling and can look as equally impressive as a ton of blooms.

Don’t be fooled though, it is not a ‘cheap’ alternative to flowers. The cost per stem of foliage can be equal to that of any bloom, so make sure you do your homework and have open and honest conversations with your florist.

Chat about what can be sourced locally? What can be foraged and not die within hours of picking it? What can be used as statement foliage and what as cheaper fillers? Be realistic about the amount and variety of foliage you will require though.

Most importantly, enjoy the sheer and utter beauty, of the green stuff.
