Winter Wedding Inspiration at Trevenna Barns: Jewel-Tone Flowers & Cosy Cornish Style
A cosy Cornish celebration full of colour, love, and light
There’s something truly special about winter weddings, the soft glow of candlelight, the rich jewel tones, and that intimate sense of warmth that only comes from gathering together while the weather outside does its thing.
Sally and David’s December wedding at Trevenna Barns captured everything we love about the season, a celebration that felt both elegant and personal, wrapped in love, laughter, and the most beautiful flowers.
A love that bloomed in Cornwall
Sally and David chose to marry in Cornwall not just for its beauty, but because of their deep connection to the area. David’s mother was Cornish, and the couple feel a natural pull westward, with family, friends, and happy memories spread across the county.
“We plan to move down as soon as we can,” Sally shared. “We wanted somewhere that felt like home, and Trevenna was perfect, warm, welcoming, and the team there made everything effortless.”
Why Trevenna Barns is perfect for a winter wedding
Even on the chilliest days, Trevenna radiates warmth. The interiors are filled with character, wooden beams, log burners, and views across rolling hills. In winter, the trees sparkle with twinkling lights, giving the whole venue a magical glow.
For Sally and David, that atmosphere was exactly what they were looking for. “We wanted a cosy winter wedding and knew that even if we didn’t get outside, the interiors would feel beautiful and inviting,” Sally said.
The floral design
Their floral palette was inspired by the bridesmaids’ dresses, deep, wintry jewel tones that reflected the richness of the season. Kirsty at Escential Blooms designed the florals to echo those hues, bringing together textured foliage, romantic blooms, and a touch of drama for a look that felt both timeless and full of personality.
From the bouquets to the table arrangements, everything was designed to complement Trevenna’s natural charm. Think velvety roses, trailing greenery, and winter berries, adding colour and life against the soft candlelight and rustic interiors.
One of our favourite details? A beautiful photograph of Kirsty holding Sally’s bouquet, a reminder that every wedding we flower tells a story, even if we’re not there to see the day unfold in person.
A celebration filled with heart
Though Sally’s journey after her wedding brought unexpected challenges, a cancer diagnosis just before the big day, her warmth and positivity shine through every message she’s shared with us.
It’s a powerful reminder of what weddings are truly about: love, connection, and the joy of celebrating with the people who mean the most.
We’re so grateful to have played a small part in such a meaningful day and to see how beautifully Lucy Lloyd-Jones Photography captured it all. The light, the laughter, and the emotion in every frame tell a story that words can only begin to express.
Inspiration for your own winter wedding
If you’re planning a winter celebration, take a cue from Sally and David’s approach:
Embrace the season — jewel tones, candlelight, and rich textures bring depth and warmth.
Choose a venue with soul — somewhere that feels as beautiful inside as it does outside.
Add personal touches — colours inspired by your loved ones, family connections, and meaningful details make your day uniquely yours.
Winter weddings offer something truly magical, that sense of intimacy and romance you can’t quite capture in any other season.
